Dr. hab. Mateusz Wichtowski is a specialist in oncological surgery and serves as the physician in charge of the department and head of the Department of Oncological Surgery at the Oncology Institute of the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznań. His practice covers oncological, reconstructive and plastic breast surgery, as well as treatment of tumours of the skin, soft tissues, thyroid and gastrointestinal tract.
In breast surgery, he provides the full range of treatment: biopsies, breast-conserving treatment, mastectomies, and immediate or delayed reconstruction using expanders, implants and the patient’s own tissue, as well as oncoplastic procedures and lipofilling. He also performs risk-reducing surgery in patients with confirmed genetic mutations, including BRCA, where the decision to operate precedes disease and requires both surgical expertise and precise assessment of clinical and genetic risk.
His services also include plastic surgery procedures, including breast augmentation with implants or the patient’s own fat, breast lifts and abdominoplasty.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznań in 2013. He obtained his doctoral degree in medical sciences in 2019, became a specialist in oncological surgery in 2020 and obtained his habilitation in 2026. He gained surgical experience at the Department of Oncological and General Surgery of the Greater Poland Cancer Centre in Poznań, then at the University Hospital in Zielona Góra and, since 2022, at the University Hospital in Poznań.
Founder and former chair of the Young Oncological Surgeons Section of the Polish Society of Oncological Surgery. Author and co-author of scientific publications and book chapters on oncological and reconstructive surgery, co-organiser of training workshops for surgeons and academic lecturer. Member of the Polish Society of Oncological Surgery, the European Society of Surgical Oncology and the EYSAC National Representatives Committee of ESSO.
