Prof. Leszek Romanowski, MD, PhD, is a specialist in orthopedics and musculoskeletal traumatology with more than 40 years of clinical experience and a recognized authority in hand surgery, microsurgery, and reconstructive surgery of the upper limb. For many years he headed the Department and Clinic of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Hand Surgery at the Karol Marcinkowski Medical University in Poznań and served as director of its Institute of Orthopedics.
His main practice areas include hand surgery, treatment of peripheral nerve injuries, wrist conditions, shoulder surgery, and reconstructive surgery of the upper limb. He combines many years of academic experience with modern microsurgical techniques to treat both chronic conditions and complex orthopedic injuries.
He gained international clinical experience during a scientific and clinical fellowship in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, developing expertise in microsurgery and modern reconstructive techniques. For decades he led one of the most renowned hand-surgery centers in Greater Poland.
He performed the first successful replantation of an amputated hand in Greater Poland, setting the direction for modern reconstructive microsurgery in the region.
He is the author or co-author of hundreds of scientific publications, textbooks, and presentations at international orthopedic congresses, with particular emphasis on conditions of the shoulder, wrist, and upper limb.
For his achievements in hand surgery, he received the “Giant in Hand Surgery” distinction from the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand, as well as numerous national and international honors.
Former President of the Polish Society for Surgery of the Hand and an active representative of Poland in international orthopedic circles. Author of respected scientific works, longtime academic lecturer, and mentor to successive generations of orthopedic surgeons.
